Kids & Obesity - Video Games vs Activity
If you find that your little darling prefers sitting in front of the tube more than getting some action in the great outdoors, you're not alone. Parents these days are continually at odds, desperately seeking a solution to the video game dilemma. While kids of yesteryear enjoyed kicking the can, catching fireflies and Red Rover, then kids of today enjoy vicariously stepping into suspended animation.
So what's a parent to do? Ban them from their game and you risk banning yourself from your kid's desire to cozy up to you. On the other hand, allowing too much video or tv time places their health in jeopardy. Here are some suggestions that may help:
Discover a physical activity that your child enjoys - whether it's discovering nature or the arts. They may never meet their favorite activity if you don't introduce it to them.
Place some of the responsibility on your child in regards to time spent in front of the tube. Ask your child to take a walk with you before video time.
It's not all bad. Keep in mind that video games, as well as television are not only entertaining - they can also be educational. Seek out a few educational games and shows that will benefit your child.
Just like in the area of daily diet, all things are good when practiced in moderation.
