Free Diet Menu - Gourmet Good German Diet Menu

Written by Thin Thin

Beer, apple strudel, cabbage rolls, bratwurst, black forest cake, Kaiser rolls - the German diet is one filled with bold taste, as well as bold presentation, incorporating a melody of flavors that had branded German cuisine as some of the finest in the world.   On that note, let's see what we can cook up in our make-shift German kitchen.

Breakfast Menu: (About 300 Calories)

German Pancakes - Small pouch of pancake mix.   Prepare according to package directions and flip out two for your German Pancake recipe.

Note:   You may also use prepared frozen pancakes containing about 100 calories each.

Next, spray each pancake with no calorie butter spray.   Lay 1 hot pancake in plate and top with warmed apple pie filling - the lite, reduced calorie variety containing about 35 calories per serving.   Sprinkle with ground cinnamon to suit personal taste preferences.

Top with remaining pancake.   Spray with about 2 Tablespoons of whipped topping.   Enjoy with cup of skim milk.

May add coffee/tea if desired prepared with low fat creamer and no calorie sugar

Mid Morning Snack: (About 80 Calories)

1 cup low fat yogurt

Lunch Menu: (About 400 Calories)

German Sausage Feast:   3 ounces of extra lean link smoked sausage - or Kielbasas  (Louis Rich OR Eckrich OR Mr. Turkey)  sliced and served on a Kaiser Bun (about 180 calories) toasted with no calorie butter spray.   Condiments:   lettuce, tomato, onion and mustard OR spicy mustard.   CUT this sandwich in half and share with a friend.

Enjoy with German Potato Pancakes: Shred 1/2 of a small potato, add salt and pepper then 'fry' with no calorie, butter flavored non stick cooking spray.   Makes one BIG pancake for about 60 calories.

Also enjoy 1 sliced onion that has been saluted in no calorie butter spray until clear.

Enjoy with 1 lite beer OR 1 cup of skim milk.

May add coffee/tea if desired prepared with low fat creamer and no calorie sugar.

Mid Afternoon Snack: (About 35 Calories)

1 black or red plum

Dinner Menu:   (About 300 Calories)

Diet Cabbage Patch Rolls - Makes 4 Servings
Combine the following in a mixing bowl:
1/2 pound lean ground turkey
1 egg
10 coarsely crumbled saltine crackers
sea salt
coarsely ground pepper
1/2 cup of diced onion and diced bell pepper cooked until tender in no calorie cooking spray

Drench 4  large cabbage leaves in boiling water until tender.   Be careful!   Allow to cool until they can be filled with meat mixture.

Divide meat mixture among  cabbage leaves placing on edge of cabbage leaf.   Fold leaf over with mixture, then fold sides to the inside.   Continue to roll until cabbage resembles tiny loaf.   Place in baking pan that has been sprayed with no calorie, non stick butter flavored cooking spray.

Salt and pepper leaves as desired.   Cover with 1 can of Hunt's Traditional style spaghetti sauce.   Bake in oven at 375 until done through and through - about 30 minutes depending on your oven and altitude.

Serve with German Pickled Beets.   To prepare, drain sliced canned beets into bowl and add Splenda and 1/4 cup of white vinegar to beet juice.   Add Splenda to suit personal sweetness.   Carefully return beets to juice and refrigerate until ice cold. Best made a day or two ahead of time.

Also enjoy a large salad of: lettuce, tomato, cucumber, carrots and mushrooms drizzled with your favorite low calorie salad dressing.

May add coffee/tea if desired prepared with low fat creamer and no calorie sugar

Bedtime Snack: (About 125 Calories)

1 cup of skim milk blended with 1/2 cup frozen fruit plus Splenda to taste   (our favorite is strawberries)
