How to Beat Weight Gain With Your Partner's HelpHow the Hiney Got Untiny - Beating Weight Gain via Weight Loss Long ago and far away we all started out about the same size. Think about it. Diapers don't come in that many sizes for newborns, do they? So yes, we all start off about the same size. As time goes by, our eating habits were established - generally a product of our parent's eating habits. If we are lucky, we developed healthy eating habits. If we are unlucky, we developed a lot of fat cells that we will carry with us until the day that we die. We can shrink those fat cells, but we cannot get rid of them. And if we are super lucky, we also inherited those desirable 'thin' genes from our parents. Another factor that influences our weight is the people around us because they have great impact on our food choices in our daily diet. Away from home, those outside sources may play a part in mandating our lunch menu - such as times when we share lunch with co-workers, or are required to attend a work-related function. These situation are much easier to manage than the ones impacting our personal home life. When someone else is involved in our personal life, it is very hard to find a point of balance, particularly in the area of the daily diet. But a balance must be reached or weight gain will ensure whenever the amount of energy (calories) consumed exceeds our daily energy (calorie) requirement. Example: Helen is a devoted vegetarian. Her husband Harold hates vegetables....well, all vegetables except 'French fries'. Harold is a big meat eater. Helen is in charge of preparing dinner and refuses to cook meat. As she enjoys her vegetable dinner, she gazes at Harold through the dining room window as he tosses a half-side of beef on the grill and shoots her the spatula while mouthing, "Hell cat Helen". On the other hand, Joy is a devoted vegetarian. Her husband Jack hates vegetables...well, all vegetables except 'French fries'. Jack is a big meat eater. Joy is in charge of preparing dinner. Rather than force her food preferences onto Jack, she prepares the foods that he enjoys in the healthiest manner possible, such as grilling and roasting his protein choices. From time-to-time, when Joy comments on how delicious a certain veggie dish tastes, Jack asks if he can test a bite. Slowly, he is discovering that he truly enjoys many vegetables that his beloved Joy enjoys, and he is making beans a frequent vegetable protein choice over meat, an animal protein source which can render unhealthy effects on his body - or anyone's body for that matter. In situations such as Helen and Harold when balance cannot be achieved, the daily diet can be a miserable time, particularly should it involve one individual who enjoys desserts and an individual who faints at the site of sugar. Add a measure of stress to the Weight Gain Equation and the numbers on the weight scale are bound to increase. In situations where both soul-mates enjoy naughty, empty-calorie foods and high-fat foods, the result is a weight gain disaster waiting to happen. It's like a Diet Tag Team from Diet Hell. And when one soul-mate decides to stop and take stock of the state of the bath scales, the other soul-mate may feel intimidated, embarrassed or uncertain. Reaching a decision to lose weight together while embracing a healthier diet can go miles towards weight loss success. Therefore, strive to go on a healthy daily diet together, taking care to insert foods and beverages that both of you enjoy. In addition, enjoy activities together. Take moonlight walks or take on new adventures together such as ice skating your way to a healthier body. And if one decides to enter the Diet Trail, know that it's okay to encourage them on their journey to Weight Loss Success. There may come a time when the shoe is turned.
