Chester's Timed Daily Diet Plan
Chester realized that he would need to make several changes in his life in order to lose weight and keep his diabetes and heart problems in check.
He decided to start out with simple, basic adjustments to his diet - just as he had slowly incorporated activity into his lifestyle over the past few weeks, and just as he had slowly curbed off his working hours to spend more time at home with his family, allowing him to enjoy more activity.
Chester decided not to focus on his foods, rather the times during the day in which he ate. He shut out all snacking. He ate breakfast at 7 am, lunch at noon, and dinner at 6. After dinner, food was off-limits.
- Chester times his diet so that he enjoys three balanced meals each day.
Chester was rewarded in a 'big weigh' on his weight loss scales. More changes were in store.....
After Chester got his weight under control, he adjusted his plan based on his doctor's orders. Because there was quite a stretch in-between the times that Chester ate from lunch to dinner, his blood sugar levels weren't stable. His doctor advised adding snacks to his daily diet which helped to stabilize his blood sugar.
- Breakfast is his most important meal of the day - as well as his largest meal of the day.
- Lunch generally involves a sandwich prepared with whole grain bread and stuffed with healthy raw vegetables and lean protein. At times he'll have a healthy salad or soup. If his work crew wants to dine out, he chooses wisely from the menu and always requests a nutrition guide from the restaurant when he isn't sure of the nutrition facts and caloric information.
- Dinner is his smallest meal of the day as Chester realizes that it's hard to work off calories late in the day. He knows that if he eats after eight in the evening that it's just going to ferment on his gut all night raising risks for uncomfortable heartburn and gas that will interfere with his rest. If he's up all night, he's not going to feel his best after sunrise. And he won't be all that excited about eating a healthy breakfast as he's still getting over his after-eight mistake.
He continues to incorporate snacks into his daily diet - mid morning and mid afternoon. If supper is small he will enjoy a piece of fruit before eight or glass of skim milk as a snack - but after eight and it's just too late.
Chester makes it a point to only choose healthy snacks. His favorite snacks consist of fresh fruit, skim-based yogurt and cottage cheese, jerky and yes - even rice cakes.
Chester realizes that by eating healthy, he is not only maintaining his weight and keeping his diabetes and high cholesterol under control, he is also extending his life span.
