American Spaghetti
Three economical methods for preparing American Spaghetti. If you enjoy meatless spaghetti, simply leave out the meatballs.
American Spaghetti Recipe #1 - Quick, easy, straightforward recipe.
Purchase prepared spaghetti and add your favorite jarred or canned sauce. Also add prepared meatballs which can be found in the frozen section at your local market.
American Spaghetti Recipe #2 - a modified version of recipe #1
Prepare spaghetti, add favorite spaghetti sauce and prepared meatballs.
American Spaghetti Recipe #3 - Quick & Delicious with a homemade touch.
Use either prepared or homemade spaghetti. Purchase 1/2 pound of lean ground beef, 1 small onion, 1 package of spaghetti seasoning, and 1 medium-sized can of tomato sauce.
You can either prepare meatballs, or prepare a spaghetti meat sauce.
To prepare a spaghetti meat sauce:
Cook beef with chopped onion until done. Drain and add seasoning mix + 1/4 cup of water. Add tomato sauce. Pour over prepared spaghetti.
To prepare spaghetti meatballs:
Add 1 egg to the meat, plus salt and pepper. Add 1/4 cup of bread crumbs OR 5 crushed saltines if desired. Form into meatballs and add to a pan containing water. Water should cover meat about 1/3 the way.
The idea is to steam the meatballs so that they will get done in the center without over-cooking the exterior. Once steam has evaporated, cook on low heat until meatballs are done. Use a bit of cooking spray if necessary, but take care to remove pan from stove as spraying into the heat can cause a serious accident. Also, be sure to turn the meatballs during the cooking process to ensure that all sides get sufficient heat.
