Flatbread Recipe
Flatbreads are so economical to purchase (without the mess of making them too) that you might be better off buying them rather than making them.
And of course, they can be sliced and filled with an amazing assortment of foods to create a special meal - from taco meat to meatballs.
To prepare our basic flatbread recipe below combine all the ingredients below - using only one of the cups of flour. Beat with a mixer for about 1 minute - or until well combined, slowly incorporating 2 cups of the remaining flour. Dough should pull away from the bowl when done.
Use the remaining flour to knead dough on flat surface. Form a round flat circle and allow to rise in a warm spot for half an hour. Use a bit of plastic wrap that has been sprayed with cooking spray to cover dough during the rising phase.
Remove plastic and poke holes in the top of the dough with the end of a wooden spoon (or a round spoon). Smear on olive oil and sprinkle with dried rosemary if desired. The rosemary is totally optional.
Bake in a preheated 400 degree oven until done - about 20 minutes.
Ingredients for Basic Flatbread
3 1/2 cups of all purpose flour
1 teaspoon of salt
1 package of active yeast
1 slightly beaten egg
1/4 cup of vegetable oil
1 cup of warm water
