Holiday Pot Stickers - Holiday Appetizer Recipes
for Dieters
Those little wonton and eggroll wrappers at your local market
can be used to create a variety of delicious tidbits
for holiday entertaining. From savory to sweet, just
fill with your favorite mix then seal. Next, choose
your cooking method as wrappers work excellently when
boiled, baked or pan-cooked using no calorie cooking
spray.
The Pot Sticker recipe that we wish to share with
you today is a great way to use up left overs - from
mashed potatoes to veggies. For a perogie-type appetizer
simply dollop a spoon of seasoned mashed potatoes into
a small wonton wrapper, seal using your finger and a
bit of water, then boil for about 1 minute in a pan
of boiling water using a slotted spoon for transferring
from pot to plate. Top with the following mixture: Melt
1 Tablespoon of margarine in a pan and add about 2 Tablespoons
of flour and stir into a thick paste (rue). Next, add
about 2 cups of skim milk and whisk until thick and
bubbly. Season with salt, pepper, dried parsley and
a dash or two of ground nutmeg. Spoon onto hot wantons.
For Pot Stickers that will stand up and salute your
guests from a holiday plate or platter, simply fill
with mixed veggies that have been combined with your
favorite sauce. We recommend a Chinese-style sauce,
as well as adding a bit of chopped chicken or microwaved
bacon. Just a little will do. Although bacon is high
in fat, when microwaved a good deal of fat and calories
are wiped out leaving a slice of bacon with about 35-40
calories. And one stick of bacon will fill about 3-4
wantons as it's packed with flavor.
Next, simply draw all four corners of the wonton
or eggroll wrapper to the top and twist. The Pot Sticker
will resemble a money bag. You can even personalize
the name of your recipe - such as Scrooge's Money Bags.
Next, use butter flavored cooking spray and cook on
the stovetop in a non-stick pan until golden brown over
medium heat. Be sure to compliment the serving tray
with a small bowl of whichever sauce you used so your
guest can dip, dip, dip!
