Traditional Holiday Plate Calories
Depending upon the recipe, calories can greatly vary
on the holiday table. For example, a boxed stuffing
may contain about 180 calories per 1/2 cup while Aunt
Linda's homemade sausage stuffing contains more than
500 calories per 1/2 cup. Here are a few more examples
of how calories can vary at the holiday table.
- Jarred gravy - 50 calories per 1/4 cup. Aunt
Linda's homemade gravy - 200 calories per 1/4 cup.
- Apple pie, single crust will save you about
130 calories per slice.
- Eggnog is huge when it comes to calories often
exceeding 350 calories per 1/2 cup serving.
- Alcohol can totally blow a diet due to the calorie
content. Watch the spirits - without losing the
spirit of the holidays. And your diet!
- Rolls are tricky. When shopping, look for those
that are 100 calories or abouts each as some may
contain 200 or more calories per roll. Same applies
to biscuits.
- Other high calorie holiday favorites include:
fruit cake, mincemeat pie, cheesecake, fudge and
carrot cake with cream cheese icing.
Although it's very difficult to not indulge, you'll
be thanking yourself the morning after the holiday.
It only takes a teensy bit of time to eat, and a very
long time to burn off the weight gain.
