Tom's Roasted Turkey - Holiday Dessert Recipes for
Dieters
One of the most delicious combinations is meat +
bacon. There is nothing quite as tasty as a chicken
tender wrapped in bacon, then roasted in the oven. Keeping
this in mind, we created Tom's Roast Turkey making use
of bacon. Opt for varieties of lean bacon that contain
about 35 calories per slice.
You will need the following ingredients for this
diet-wise recipe:
1 turkey - any size
Fresh or Dried Herbs - we use a sprig of fresh rosemary,
a bit of fresh sage and 1 large onion all fitted into
the cavity of the turkey
Salt & Pepper to Taste
About 6 strips of lean bacon
Be sure to remove that little paper sack, the neck
and the butt of the turkey. And be sure that your turkey
is completely thawed and washed.
Place turkey in roasting pan. Simply stuff turkey
with sage, rosemary and onion. Next, salt and pepper
the turkey. Cover the wings and legs in foil. Lay the
bacon strips on top of the breast area of the turkey.
Bake in a preheated oven on 450-degrees for about 30
minutes - or until golden brown. Remove turkey and take
off the bacon slices. Return turkey to oven and continue
to roast as directed on turkey label.
As a note, if the drippings of the turkey are used
to make gravy, the bacon will lend a smoky flavor. Although
delicious, it's quite different than the flavor of the
traditional turkey gravy.
