Medieval Mime’s Rinds

Split washed & fully Dried oranges in half & remove the fruit. Save fruit to make fresh orange juice or toss into a crisp green salad.   Slice the peel into very thin strips. Place the orange strips into a saucepan with ½ of the water & bring water to boiling point.   Cook 10 minutes longer. Drain the water, then repeat using remaining ½ of water once more for boiling.   Drain completely in a slotted colander. Pour on the vanilla & stir. Allow to marinate as the prepare the sugar mixture.

In the meanwhilst, mix DRY gelatin with the REAL sugar in a tiny bowl. Begin dredging the cooked orange peel thru the sugar mixture a bit at a time, then place the coated peel onto the board. Keep working until all of the peels hath been coated.   Place the coated orange peels into a tiny bowl as the work.

Next, bring out a flat board covered with waxed paper, foil or sturdy plastic wrap. Most any flat object will do & most any cooking covering will do. If the cupboard is empty of foil, waxed paper or sturdy plastic wrap, simply spray a bit of non-stick cooking spray on the flat surface. No calorie refrigerated butter spray will also doeth nicely.

Begin re-dredging the orange peels thru the sugary mix one final time. Place the finished thickly coated rind onto the flat covered surface. Place into the oven or the microwave or another safe spot & allow to air dry overnite. Mime’s Rinds should be stored in air-tight containers & will last a very long time for future festival use. Experiment with other favorite peels & gelatins. Rinds may’st also be used as a peppy additive to new goody creations.
