Quick Diet Tricks - Calories in a Holiday Meal'Thin May be 'in' but Good Health is Life's True Wealth.' ~ Thin Thin Holidays contribute to weight gain more than any other factor. And not just 'the day' itself - rather the days leading up to the celebration. We-humans tend to 'let loose' and tell ourselves, 'I'll worry about my weight another day because today - or this week - or this month, I'm going to have fun!" When all those calories collide with the weight scales, the results aren't pretty. And holiday meals tend to be very fat when it comes to calories. Here is a quick example of the calories contained in a typical holiday meal: Turkey - about 450 calories for 6 ounces of untrimmed white-meat turkey; save calories by opting for 3 ounces of trimmed (fat and skin removed) white-meat turkey for 130 calories. Dressing/Stuffing - about 400 calories per cup; generally a serving size equals ½ cup but I must say that I've seen very few people who didn't load-up on stuffing. Sticking to ½ cup serving is a smart Diet Move. Mashed Potatoes - When prepared with butter and whole milk, 1 cup of mashed potatoes contains about 237 calories. Cranberry Sauce - 100 calories for 1/6th of a small can Gravy - 50 calories per Tablespoon Roll - 100 calories for a small roll To save calories amid dessert, opt for fruit-based pies over cream pies and nut-based pies.
