Mean Cheerleaders & Sports SnobsStress Kills Healthy Diets
Stressed by the 'upper class' at school? Stress can contribute to weight gain....and attitude. Stress can kill even the most healthiest of diets. Long ago when I was in high school there were these people that were called Cheerleaders and Sports Jocks. I believe that most adults are full of it because the teachers and school leaders encouraged everyone to look up to the Cheerleaders and Sports Jocks. And as much as I dislike mentioning this - the only nice Cheerleader that I ever met was one that wanted my vote before election day. There was this one girl who was running for Cheerleader again - and she came up to me oozing with sweetness, telling me that I was her best friend - that she really liked me and that ...oh yeah, that she wanted me to vote for her. Well, I did. And after she won, she passed me in the hall and I excitedly greeted her and she just walked on by - her eyes fixed like some zombie straight ahead. And me - well, I learned a BIG lesson in life. And that lesson really hurt and it has stuck with me forever. Fact is, I've never met a cheerleader or a jock who wasn't full of himself or herself. Too much power and popularity amid youth is too much for some individuals to handle wisely. Personally, I believe that school officials are a bit nutsy-coo-coo when it comes to sporting events because if they were really smart - they would allow EVERYONE who wanted to be a cheerleader or a sport's dude play. All the parents, friends and family would come to see the games - and the school would benefit from the revenue and the students would gain an experience to remember. Sad but so - sporting events are much like the Stage of Life. There are leaders that we like to look up to, there are leaders that we like to follow, and there are leaders that we like to lead us. And we don't like it when our peers do us wrong. It hurts and it taints our trust. And it creates stress. Did you know that stress can actually lead to weight gain? Stress leads to weight gain because stress captures our minds and many times, it misplaces our good sense. We go to lunch one day and we are stressed out over a big test, and before we know it, we've eaten all our lunch and didn't even realize it. We didn't even taste it. Stress can lead to unhealthy grazing sessions, or food binges. Why? Because when we are stressed, we tend to fall back on things that give us comfort - those familiar things. It may be chocolate, or cheesecake or chocolate cheesecake. But when stress leans on eating for comfort, one of the best ways to combat weight gain is to divert your attention to healthier modes of comfort. Here are just a few healthier suggestions: - Read a good book. - Shoot some hoops. - Grab for fresh fruit over refined sugar. - Call up a friend and chat it out. Before I close out this article, I want to say to anyone reading this who may be a Cheerleader or a Sport's Jock - I hope that you use your position at school to set an example to be looked up to rather than one that looks down on others from a lofty throne. This article is not to say that all Cheerleaders are mean OR that all Sport's Jocks are snobs, because there are a lot of great ones out there who do make a difference in their fellow student's lives by creating warm memories. I've just never met one in person. If this sounds like you, then congratulations for making a positive mark in life. And keep in mind that most of us don't write our success stories in life. Our kids and friends do! If you're feel like a round peg that's trying to fit into a square hole - then you and I are a lot alike. I've never fit into so-called society. You'll do just find throughout life - just as you are. If you need to change to fit in, then you are no longer unique. Who wants to be accepted as one of the zombies anyway?
