If you are on a diet, or contemplating weight loss, one of the questions you may ponder is, "How long is this going to take me to accomplish?" The amount of weight that you need to lose should effect the way that you approach weight loss.
The Weight Loss Goddess offers the following suggestions to help making losing weight easier to attain by using a sensible thought process:
Dieter A - Has 5-25 pounds to lose. Dieter A should plan reaching their weight loss goal by thinking of the time as days rather than weeks."I lost 15 pounds in thirty days" sounds much more appealing than "I lost 15 pounds in a month," doesn't it?
Dieter B - Has 26-50 pounds to lose. Dieter B should plan reaching their weight loss goal by thinking of the time as weeks rather than months.
Dieter C - Has 51-100 pounds to lose. Dieter C should plan reaching their weight loss goal by thinking of the time as weeks rather than months. "I lost 50 pounds in 25 weeks," sounds pretty good!
Dieter D - Has over 100 pounds to lose. Dieter D should plan reaching their weight loss goal by thinking of the time as months rather than years. I've known some individuals who have dropped over 150 pounds in 12 months. Even if an individual has 300 or more pounds to drop, it can be accomplished. The sooner the diet is started, the sooner the dieter will reach their weight loss goal.
As a note, before you embark on a diet plan, always get approval from your doctor first. However you plan your weight loss window, be sure and stick to your plan. Quitters never win!
About the worse thing you can do while dieting is to eat late at night. There's simply no time to burn off the calories and the food rests on your tummy for most of the night.
If you feel a snack attack coming on in the late evening, try the following:
drink 1 cup of skim or low fat milk and forget the chocolate chip cookies
brush your teeth (old, but good diet tip!)
turn in for the evening because your weight loss scales will thank you, come morning.
There are many things in life that we just don't like to do and unfortunately, dieting and weight loss usually reside at the top of the 'I don't like to do this' list. Some of us spend 2/3 of our life 'not liking' what we are doing - from work to house cleaning (for those of us who happen to be Domestic Weight Loss Goddesses). Combine this with the amount of time we spend sleeping, and life pretty much sucks. On that note, try to make everything you do - or at least the majority of what you do, pleasant - including dieting and weight loss.
There is one really good thing about Diet Sacrifice - and that is 'your reward will be great'! And it's a lot easier to do that 'unpleasant something' when we know that at the end of that unpleasant something, rests gold! Go for the gold!
A Weight Loss Goddess can never have too many Best Diet Tips! Here are a few of our favorites:
choose water & and citrus wedge over soda, juice and other sugar-loaded beverages
relax at the end of your stressful day by wrapping yourself in a cucumber mask while soaking in a lavender-scented tub of warm water
snack tray: 2 cups of chilled fresh fruit served with a tiny bowl of our Goddess Whipped Topping: 6 Tablespoons LIGHT whipped topping (45 Calories), 2 packets of no calorie sweetener plus 2-3 crushed strawberries. Stir gently and place in the middle of your fruit
tray. Then dip, dip, dip!

The Prince Dieter- the expensive route to weight loss.
Many dieters do great when they have their meal plan set out in front of them, but as soon as they enter a new dimension (i.e. restaurant), a feeling of total Diet Insecurity settles in. Here is a small sampling of some of the questions they may ask themselves:
What can I eat?
How many carbs does that white object have?
How many calories are in that delicious looking chocolate cake?
Should I have a soda, or just lemon and water?
In the end, they break and then order and eat until the moon sets. As long as they hop right back on the Diet Wagon come morning, then all should be well with minimal Diet Damage. Keeping that in mind, here are a few tips to add that might save even more Diet Damage during a Wild Night Out on the Town:
It's hard to do a lot of Diet Damage with a salad; opt for light dressings.
Choose baked potato over fried every time - and watch the butter!
Steer away from steer and go for fish or chicken. And if you do have steer, stick to grilled.
Avoid anything fried, from steaks to pies.
Watch the Entree Forerunners: baskets of chips and hot sauce, hot rolls and cornbread with butter and peanuts.
Share that dessert.
Diet & Weight Loss Ponderings
The first thing that you need to do when beginning a diet (after you get the Big Thumb's up from your doctor) is to devise a Diet Game Plan. Losing weight is a lot like many sports. Take football. Without a game plan, the team won't be going anywhere. And in turn, a diet without a Game Plan acts in the same manner - it won't even get off the ground before it falls and breaks, just like Humpty Dumpty. You want your Diet to fly - not to fall and spin into a thousand different directions!
Begin by targeting a number for weight loss - your weight loss goal number.
Weight lifting can accelerate your weight loss, so if you think that you'll be able to devote time to a weight lifting routine, then by all means, just do it! If you have any doubts, don't start the plan.
Keep in mind that muscle burns more calories than fat. Therefore, if you generate a nice set of abs, you'll not only look great and feel great, you'll also be able to get by on far more goodies. And that can be a very good thing when dieting!
Camel Bites the Dust From Smoke Inhalation
Okay...who coughed & didn't bend over?
As a Weight Loss Goddess OR Manly Man seeking optimum health, you are already aware of the potential dangers of smoke - both first and second hand smoking. If you are currently a smoker, think seriously about quitting. And once you begin your diet, if you choose not to quit smoking, you'll need to be extremely carefully about not substituting smoking for eating.
Weight gain after quitting tobacco is always a concern. On average, the former smoker typically gains 5 - 10 pounds. If you're currently smoking to keep weight gain away, 5 - 10 pounds is a very small amount of weight when balanced against the unhealthy benefits of smoking.
Keeping Snacks in Hand
Snack time can get so out of hand that it can overtake the calories consumed during breakfast, lunch and dinner. Consider the following when it comes to calories:
- 1 Cup of most sodas contains about 120 calories. If your soda glass is average, it holds about three cups.
- Chips contain about 15 calories each and it doesn't take long to wolf down a handful.
- Candy bars contain about 200 to 300 calories
With the above in mind, reach for fresh fruit when it's time to snack. You'll not only save fat and calories, you'll be eating a more nutritious snack.
And that's something that you can feel very good about!
One of the most important keys to weight loss success is obtaining support while you are on your diet plan. As you begin to formulate your weight loss plan, it's a good idea to sit down with your partner and share your diet plan. Ask for their support - as your mate to keep you in check while you diet. Some other things that you may ask your partner include:
taking a daily walk together
eating healthy 6 nights a week, and having a 'sane' celebration by going out to eat one night of the week.
With a little help, your mate will keep you in check, so you will keep your weight in Checkmate.
