Weight Gain Caused by Inadequate Sleep

Studies now indicate that those individuals who don't get their necessary forty-winks may experience more problems with weight gain and obesity than those who do.  Common issues that may interfere with sleep include:

digestive woes

insomnia

restless leg syndrome

anxiety

depression

medications - other the counter and prescribed

stress

night sweats which may be related to kidney issues or menopause

enuresis (bed wetting)

noise in the area such as sirens, water dripping, etc.

other medical conditions

The fact that most of the above contribute to the feeling of ill-health and may even escalate weight gain as we tend to search for things to comfort us when we experience ill times, such as our favorite foods. Many times, we may eat more thinking it will make us feel better.

In addition, the more hours we are awake, the more opportunity exists to hit the kitchen pantry or do a drive-by at the local fast-food joint.

In Summary

If you consistently experience difficulty in falling to sleep, please see your doctor without delay.  He (or she) may just have forty winks with your name on it.

Please meet with your personal physician to determine and/or verify the cause of weight gain.  With so many solutions available these days, weight gain is getting much easier to accomplish.
