What Adds Calories to Cakes & Pies & CookiesThere is nothing quite so virginly delicious as a wedding cake!   Beautiful, fluffy, serene - and yes, loaded with calories. If a wistful bride were to consume her ten-tiered cake in one sitting, I daresay that the groom would have difficulty in carrying her pinky over the threshold - much less the entire bride. So what makes cakes so high in calories?   And what about pies and cookies? The deadly stinger in both pies and cake consists of flour, sugar and fat - generally in the form of oil, shortening or butter  - the little yellow difference that is capable of clogging the most manly of man's veins and arteries. Trimming Cake Calories - The calories in cake can be trimmed by trimming the frosting from the cake before eating.   Yes, I know - that's the best part.   Take heart in knowing that you can still garner a bit of sweetness by placing a pretty mat on top of the naked cake and dusting it with powdered sugar. No licking the fingers, please. Trimming Pie Calories - The calories in pie can be decreased by opting for fruit pies rather than custard versions. When purchasing pie crusts, be sure to check the calories per serving.   Some brands differ by 100 or more calories per serving. Other lower calorie options include graham cracker crusts - like the one used beneath tasty cheesecake. Then again, that's yet another diet dilemma..... The Lite Way | Return to Thin Thin
