DIET & PREGNANCY - CAN YOU DIET WHILE PREGNANT?

Pregnancy can be such a joyous time, but it can also be a trying time because during pregnancy, the mother-to-be must put the needs of her unborn child first and foremost. This often includes a strict diet prescribed by the attending physician during pregnancy as well as during the nursing phase.

Unfortunately, the old saying "I'm eating for two" doesn't give the green light to eat anything one wishes to eat, simply because they are pregnant. It does mean pursuing a healthy diet as provided by the healthcare provider during pregnancy.

Any type of diet that is considered outside of the diet box, including a healthy calorie-restricted diet to promote weight loss, should only be done under the supervision and recommendation of the attending physician.

So if you need to drop those unwanted pounds, eat healthy as directed and after baby arrives and has been weaned, place your focus on weight loss. Keep in mind that it takes about six months for the body to completely recover after pregnancy.
