Weight Gain Due to a Food Addiction, Obsession with Food or Passion
Symptoms of Food Addiction Include:
A food addiction can be lethal and requires medical intervention. Symptoms include:
a. eating continuously throughout the day, sometimes rising at night to eat/no break from eating
b. doesn't care what type of food is eaten
c. centers life around eating
d. graduates to wheelchair or becomes bedfast
e. generally lacks self-goals
f. eats quickly without taking time to taste food
Symptoms of Food Obsession
Individuals who have a Food Obsession may experience the following symptoms or characteristics where food is involved:
a. worries about eating becoming an addiction
b. binges frequently
c. low self-esteem
d. is often planning what they will eat for the rest of the day
e. diet/lose weight/regain after a few days, weeks or months
f. eats quickly without taking time to taste food as they eat
g. generally diets after the holidays and during swimsuit season
h. New Year's Resolution often includes losing weight.
i.. doesn't eat food they don't like or enjoy
j. often a yo-yo dieter
k. fears loss of control or experiences fear that they will not be able to control meals
l. generally a liquid dieter
Symptoms of Food Passion
Individuals who are passionate about food may exhibit the following symptoms or characteristics where food is involved:
a. loves food and is overly-passionate about food
b. enjoys cooking and experiments with new foods/recipes
c. likes to entertain OR enjoys social/family get-together's
d. frequently diets but maintains weight fairly well, even if overweight
e. weight gains experienced generally during the holiday season
f. binges are rare
g. may eat fast or slow
h. weight loss/healthier diet is generally a New Year's Resolution
i. dines out frequently
j. diets a lot/regains quickly
