Many people wouldn't think it, but obesity hurts. Obesity hurts self-esteem, obesity hurts health,
obesity hurts income, obesity hurts relationships, obesity hurts social status
and obesity even hurts the potential for higher positions with a company. And
now, we even have a study to back up this obesity-related, society-related
quagmire.
A study conducted by New York University
sociologist Dalton Conley and graduate student Rebecca Glauber produced some
eye-opening results. The study involved obese males and females and the effect that their obesity
has in the Working World and in the World of
Society. Although these results have been known on the streets for a
long while, it appears that employers are still wearing blinders. Thank
goodness that someone is shaking the bushes and getting the information out,
because as reflected above, in a nutshell,
'Obesity Hurts'.
The results in the health study involving obesity indicated the following:
- overweight women bring home a smaller pay check than overweight men
- overweight men are more likely to achieve occupational prestige
- overweight men stand a better chance at marriage than their female counterparts
It's very sad that we live in a world that is suppose to be wiser now than ever before. And why should obese women be treated any differently than obese men?
Bottom Line: Individuals who suffer from obesity shouldn't feel pressured to drop weight because they want to increase their paycheck. They should WANT to lose weight to improve health and their overall quality of life.
